What is Vodafone 4G Calling?
Until now, Vodafone has relied on 2G and 3G networks for making calls. When 4G was first introduced, its focus was to speed up data transfers but it wasn’t initially designed to carry calls. However, 4G Calling has now been developed specifically for calls, albeit slightly different to 2G and 3G as 4G doesn’t carry calls in the same way.
The 4G technology (also known as VoLTE) transfers calls similar to VOIP solutions however once you have a 4G enabled handset your phone will default to 4G if you are in a 4G enabled area.
4G Calling lets you make calls over 4G, meaning clearer calls. With Wi-Fi and 4G Calling, you’ll move seamlessly and uninterrupted between Wi-Fi and 4G network coverage to continue your call while being able to check your mail or browse the internet at the same time.
The primary advantage of 4G Calling is superior call quality, call connection is also quicker and you may find you get an even better signal in poor signal areas as the 4G capability travels further into buildings (because of the frequency that 4G is built on – 800MHz).
4G will become more and more common as handset suppliers enable their devices and Vodafone UK has enabled more areas to have 4G.
